 Blending themes of consumerism culture, Gurt Swanenberg questions the certainties and stereotypes of the exploitative nature of gluttonous capitalism.

In the shifting balance between captivating form and iconographic content, Swanenberg's vocabulary ranges from nostalgic cliché and subtle diquiet to cryptic and plane silly.

His creative arsenal revolves around the ressurrection of discredited techniques of representation that include figurative studies of natural history, miniature tableaux and a faithful realism bordering on the obsessive.
